Friends, you might like to know what the Bible has to say about Israel in the last days. Could the events we have been witnessing in Lebanon and Israel be the beginning of the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38? We don’t know for sure at this point, but it is getting close.
Here’s what the Book of Ezekiel tells us in the thirty-eighth chapter:
Ezekiel 38:1-9 (NASB)
And the word of the LORD came to me saying, “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him and say,
‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out,
and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords; Persia, Ethiopia and Put with them,
all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer with all its troops; Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you.
Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your companies that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. After many days you will be summoned;
in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel
which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them.
You will go up, you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.” ’ ”
This is the prophecy of Ezekiel, that in the latter days a coalition of nations is going to come against Israel. Let’s look at a map of the region, and find out what nations are included in Ezekiel’s prophecy.
Israel is in the center. The Bible refers to Israel as the “navel of the earth.” Surrounding Israel are the other nations mentioned in Ezekiel:
There is Put – which is modern day Libya.
Ethiopia, more correctly translated Cush, or what we know as modern day Sudan.
Gomer is the Caucasian area of Eastern Europe.
Beth-togarmah which may be Turkey.
Gog and Magog, comprised of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kurdistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and others.
Meshech, which is now the Russian Federation. Rosh means “head”, and is apparently Russia.
Persia, which is modern day Iran.
And what do these nations have in common? Most are Islamic states. Iran, Libya, Sudan, the “stan” countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kurdistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey – all Islamic states and many are breeding grounds for radical Islamic terrorism.
Iran has publicly declared its desire to see Israel annihilated. Iran would have to cross Iraq and perhaps come down through Syria on its way to the border of Israel. Just as Ezekiel has prophesied, these nations will gather together against the chosen people of God.
Ezekiel has painted a picture of modern day Israel as well. The prophet describes in the latter days, Israel will be gathered together from many nations. Israel will rebuild the nation that was desolate and will desire to live in peace in the land. That’s when this armada of essentially Muslim nations will be joined together with Russia to invade Israel.
Now, here is a remarkable thing. Ezekiel says this group of nations will not include Egypt, or Jordan. It will not include Saudi Arabia or Yemen. Isn’t it amazing that in an unprecedented move, members of the Arab League of nations, for the first time have denounced another Muslim group for provoking and attacking Israel? Who are these nations that have broken allegiance with this radical Muslim attack? None other than Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Together, they are condemning Hezbollah. In fact, they are hoping Israel is successful in diminishing this powerful terrorist organization along with its sponsors, Syria and Iran. Iran has become too powerful in the region. The idea of an Iran, armed with nuclear weapons, is a threat to Arab nations as well as Israel.
This is the situation described by the prophet Ezekiel. You ought to read your Bibles, Ezekiel 38. Can this be a prelude to that? We’re not sure, but it could be.
As we begin to see the line-up of nations conforming to the prophecies of the Bible, we can be very sure of the outcome: God has promised that He will destroy the enemies of Israel and bring glory to Himself.
